High School Course Catalog

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this booklet is to assist Chiang Mai International high school students, with the guidance of their parents, to choose courses for the 2020-2021 school year.  At CMIS, students must successfully complete specific courses to be eligible to graduate, however students may want to look at what the University of their choice requires for incoming freshmen.  All course credit requirements must be met within time of graduation. Thai students are expected to take Thai GL (Grammar and Language) courses for all four years. College-level Advanced Placement (AP) courses are also offered in a number of different subject areas, and students are encouraged to take advantage of these challenging academic opportunities. Students who wish to obtain the AP Capstone Diploma must take the Seminar course in 11th grade and the research course in 12th grade. The Faculty of teachers encourages students to challenge themselves in their course selection, explore their interests, and find a balance between the two.

Please study this booklet carefully and complete the subject choice form before March 6th. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your HS Counselor or myself, the HS Principal. We endeavor to meet the social and academic needs of all students and provide appropriate preparation for life after graduation.

The CMIS educational program is designed to support our international and host nation students by providing a K-12 aligned curriculum. Our teachers provide instruction that adheres to a standards-based curriculum. CMIS students are expected to show proficiency in the core subjects of Math, Science, Social Studies, and English. Our program is designed to provide students with elective courses that allow them to explore their interests in the fine arts and world languages as well. Acknowledging the diversity of our students and teachers, we also seek to enhance the curriculum by incorporating best practices from around the world. All curriculum support materials are aligned to the standards. CMIS uses the most current research pedagogy and strategies to deliver course content. Educators at CMIS are strong proponents for inclusive classroom practices, and fostering social-emotional learning. Student evaluations are based on a school wide common grading belief founded on the understanding that grades are to reflect student learning.  All curriculum support materials are aligned to the standards.
