Grade 7 English has just completed Literature Circles examining the essential question, "How do we overcome obstacles?"

Through historical fiction novels based in Asia, students were introduced to conflict in Burma, the Japanese occupation of Korea, immmigration to the United States from Vietnam (during the Vietnam war) and the Cambodian civil war and rise of the Khmer Rouge. Students were able to increase their historical knowledge of events in our region while at the same time learning how people overcame great tragedies.

As a group activity, to track the main plot points and to consider the idea of point of view, students completed fake Instagram posts as if they were the main character in their novels.

The Grade 1 Thai Novice class learned about the 3 different seasons of Thailand. They created a tree with colorful flowers and leaves, which change during each season.

Grade 6 students practiced shooting the basketball from multiple vantage points on the basketball court for PE class.

Grade One used a bottle system to discover how water can be used to show that air takes up space. Through various experiments and observations students were able to conclude that air is matter and occupies space even though we can't see it.
