Course Description

Algebra I is the first in a series of specific-focus math classes experienced at the high school level; it is a compulsory course designed to help students develop the math skills necessary for high school graduation and college entry. Built on the Common Core Standards for Mathematics, Algebra I encompasses the following content and skill foci: The Real Number System; Quantities; Seeing Structure in Expressions; Arithmetic with Polynomials and Rational Expressions; Creating Equations; Reasoning with Equations and Inequalities; Interpreting Functions; Building Functions; Linear, Quadratic, and Exponential Models; and Interpreting Categorical and Quantitative Data. Lessons are crafted to develop a deep understanding of math concepts, as well as sharpen students' skill in the "doing" of math. The CMIS Philosophy of Math will shape the learning experience.
