Course Description

Algebra II starts with a continuation of concepts studied in Algebra I. It is the third in a series of specific-focus math classes experienced at the high school level and is a compulsory course for entry to university. It is designed to help students develop the math skills necessary for high school graduation and college entry. Built on the Common Core Standards for Mathematics, Geometry encompasses the following content and skill foci: The Complex Number System; Seeing Structure in Expressions; Arithmetic with Polynomials and Rational Expressions; Creating Equations; Reasoning with Equations and Inequalities; Interpreting Functions; Building Functions; Linear, Quadratic, and Exponential Models; Trigonometric Functions; Expressing Geometric Properties with Equations; Interpreting Categorical and Quantitative Data; Making Inferences and Justifying Conclusions; and Using Probability to Make Decisions. Lessons are crafted to develop a deep understanding of math concepts, as well as sharpen students' skill in the "doing" of math. The CMIS Philosophy of Math will shape the learning experience.
