Course Description

French 1 is designed to start developing French language skills while introducing French culture for students with no or limited background in French language. Your four language skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) will be developed in an integrated way through in-class activities including working on audiovisual materials, presentations, skits and dialogues. Other learning supports include music clips, Internet activities, games, films etc.  The objective of this year of study is to acquire the necessary structures and vocabulary to describe yourself, your family, your everyday life as well as interact with French language speakers in communication situations such as at the restaurant, in the shops and in the streets.  By the end of the course, you will be able to maintain a basic conversation, give your opinion and talk about preferences as well as make and respond to simple inquiries.
