Course Description

The fundamentals of drawing are explored in more depth through various media encounters, such as Graphite, Pastel, Marker, India Ink, Scratchboard, Charcoal, Oil Pastels, & Colored Pencils. Students will be introduced to the more advanced concepts of drawing by learning  techniques and exercises. They will investigate the elements and principles of art (line, form, value, color, composition, etc.) as they refine their use of various media. Students will refer to works by great masters as well as contemporary and cross-cultural examples for further inspiration and clarity. Requirements include: (a) keeping a portfolio of sketches, exercises, and finished work; (b) self-evaluations and group critiques; (c) an oral presentation; (d) keeping a sketchbook; (e) and projects.
