NHS
On Friday, May 20th, the National Honor Society (NHS) held its 7th Annual Induction Ceremony. Eleven new inductees were welcomed into our chapter. It was wonderful to have some parents join us for this celebration. Great job inductees on
your hard work that has brought you to this point. We look forward to your contributions to NHS! Welcome aboard!!

MS art
I took my 7th grade art class outside today to practice contour and expressive line drawing. We sat under the shade of the gorgeous, ancient lilawadee trees and drew their gnarly trunks. I am very proud of the progress all my students made today!
- Mr. Nick
Science
On Friday 20th May, the AP Biology class participated in a workshop in laboratory techniques in molecular biology organized by the microbiology division of Chiang Mai University's faculty of science. The full day workshop, expertly led by Drs. Thararat Chitov and Pachara Sattayawat, gave students the chance to get hands-on experience of DNA manipulation techniques including restriction enzyme analysis of DNA, polymerase chain reactions and gel electrophoresis using some very sophisticated lab equipment. We are grateful to the CMU team who led the workshop, to Ms. Jariya for coordinating the trip, and to the CMIS administration for their support.
- Dr. Graeme
Swim
Great to have our Junior Swimming team compete on Tuesday with 6 other CMAC schools. Some impressive individual and team performances all round from our student-athletes. We hope as swimming is in season one next year we will see all our team and more return to keep the momentum going!

High School Chemistry students are currently studying acids and bases and the reactions between them. In this lab investigation they are using a technique called titration to accurately determine the concentration of acetic acid, the acid we find in vinegar. This is the first time since 2019 that we have been able to do this in person while studying this unit. It's great to be at school!

career
"2022 CMIS Middle School College and Career Day" was a huge success!

On May 27th, CMIS celebrated the 2022 Grade 5 Bridging Ceremony. During the ceremony we celebrated with our 5th graders by recognizing all of their achievements this year, and wished them the best as they move onto 6th Grade. During the ceremony students were given awards, performed talents, and crossed the bridge from Elementary to Middle School.

AP Biology students designed and carried out investigations of animal behavior using the fish from the class aquarium. They created environments of different conditions (for example different colored backgrounds and with / without vegetation) and recorded where the fish chose to locate themselves over time. Analyzing this data statistically enabled them to test their null hypotheses that the fish had no preference for the different conditions.

Skateboarding club's final gathering this year ended with a bang at a private park with so many of our young students engaged and eager to demonstrate all they have achieved throughout the year!
We hope that everyone had a great time at the skate club throughout this school year. Advisors Mr. Tim and Mr. Justin wanted to say "it was so much fun to see you all grow individually, developing confidence in your skating skills, and to grow together as a team!"
